Discover the beauty, culture, and wildlife of Sri Lanka on this immersive cycling journey across one of Asia’s most diverse islands. From ancient cities and sacred temples to tea-covered highlands, national parks, coastal villages, and tropical beaches, this tour offers a wonderful balance of cycling, nature, heritage, and relaxation. 

Ride through quiet rural roads, paddy fields, lakeside villages, forest edges, and scenic hill country while experiencing Sri Lanka’s warm hospitality and rich traditions. Along the way, explore Anuradhapura, Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Kandy’s Temple of the Tooth, and the colonial streets of Galle Fort. 

Wildlife is a major part of this journey, with safaris in Wilpattu and Yala National Parks offering the chance to see elephants, leopards, crocodiles, deer, and birdlife. The tour continues through the cool tea country of Nuwara Eliya and Ella before finishing along the southern coast with beaches, fishing villages, and whale watching in Mirissa.

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to your beachside hotel in Negombo. After check-in, complete your bike fitting and tour briefing. The rest of the day is free to relax by the beach, recover from your journey, and enjoy the easy coastal atmosphere of this traditional fishing town.

Negombo to Wilpattu
Activity: Cycling – 50 km & Wilpattu Jeep Safari

Begin your first cycling day along Sri Lanka’s scenic west coast. Ride through fishing villages, coconut plantations, salt pans, and quiet countryside roads near Chilaw Lagoon. After the ride, transfer towards Wilpattu National Park for an afternoon jeep safari in one of Sri Lanka’s most important wildlife habitats.

Wilpattu to Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura to Sigiriya

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Explore the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rising above the surrounding jungle. Day 6
Sigiriya to Kandy

Cycle beside Kandalama Lake and through rural villages, forest edges, and scenic countryside before transferring to Kandy. Day 7
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Activity: Cycling – 50 km Through Hill Country

Ride into Sri Lanka’s cooler hill country, following sections of the Mahaweli River and climbing through tea plantations, waterfalls, and misty mountain scenery. After cycling, transfer to Nuwara Eliya, known for its colonial charm, cool climate, gardens, and surrounding tea estates.

Nuwara Eliya to Ella
Activity: Cycling – 50 km Through Tea Plantations

Ella & Bandarawela
Activity: Tea Estate Experience & Scenic Train Ride

Ella to Yala National Park

Yala to Tangalle
Activity: Cycling – 60 km Along the Southern Coast

Cycle towards the southern coast through fishing villages, coconut plantations, lagoons, and quiet rural roads. The landscape becomes increasingly tropical as you approach Tangalle, a peaceful beach destination known for its golden coastline and relaxed local atmosphere.

Tangalle to Mirissa
Activity: Cycling – 50 km & Galle Fort Visit

Continue along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, riding through palm-lined roads, beach villages, lagoons, and small fishing communities. Mirissa Exploration

Start early for a whale watching excursion off the southern coast, one of the best places in the region to spot blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins during the right season. Best Time to Travel

December to April offers the most favourable weather for cycling, with pleasant temperatures, dry conditions, and clear views across much of the island.

Accommodation

Stay in a carefully selected mix of boutique hotels, heritage properties, safari lodges, beach resorts, and comfortable hill country hotels throughout the journey.

Bicycle & Equipment

Geared bicycles or e-bikes, safety helmets, and essential cycling equipment are provided. A support vehicle carries luggage, spare parts, tools, and mechanical assistance throughout the tour.

Arrival & Departure

The tour starts in Negombo and finishes in Mirissa. Airport pickup on arrival and departure transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport are included.

Fitness & Difficulty

Moderate fitness is recommended. Daily rides typically range from 40–60 km and include a mix of flat coastal roads, rolling countryside, and scenic hill country cycling.
