Discover the beauty of South Kerala on this relaxed coastal cycling journey through backwaters, beaches, and fishing villages. Riding mostly along flat backroads, the tour offers an intimate look at the region’s landscapes, culture, and daily life.

Beginning in Fort Kochi, we ride south to Marari, a peaceful coastal village known for its beach and fishing community. The journey continues to Alleppey, where a stay at a heritage homestay offers a glimpse into Kerala’s famous backwaters.From there, we head to Munroe Island, a unique wetland destination of mangroves, canals, and island villages set within Ashtamudi Lake. The route then leads to Varkala, where dramatic cliffs meet the Arabian Sea, before continuing to Kovalam, one of Kerala’s best-known beach destinations.With scenic coastal roads, local experiences, and ever-changing landscapes, this tour showcases the very best of South Kerala on two wheels.

Day 1
Cycling to Marari

Our journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Kochi, followed by a drive to Marari, a quiet coastal village known for its beautiful beach. The mostly flat route passes through wetlands, the fishing village of Chellanam, Andhakaranazhi Fishing Harbour, and coconut groves. Along the way, we visit a coir factory to learn about coir and the products made by local artisans. By afternoon, we reach Marari and check in to a property facing the Arabian Sea. In the evening, we walk through the fishing village and have the opportunity to chat with the local fishermen.
Day 2
Marari to champakulam backwater village

Leaving the coast behind, we head to Champakulam, a peaceful backwater village. The route passes paddy fields, fish and duck farms, coconut lagoons, and canals, with mostly flat terrain and a few high bridges over the backwaters. By early afternoon, we reach our riverside homestay on the Pookaitha River. Following lunch, we walk through the village, passing the church, toddy shop, vegetable market, and tea shop, or take a country canoe through the backwaters. A houseboat stay is also available, with a traditional meal prepared from the day's fresh fish catch.
Day 3
Champakulam backwater village to munroe island
Activity: Cycling to Munroe Island & Explore the Island on canoe

The ride continues to Munroe Island, a small cluster of islands set within Ashtamudi Lake. The mostly flat route passes through farming villages and the temple town of Harippad, with an option to visit the 18th-century Krishnapuram Palace. By afternoon, we reach Munroe Island known for its mangroves, wetlands, and narrow backwater canals, and check in to a homestay. In the evening, we take a walk around the island and visit a cashew processing factory.
Day 4
Munroe island to varkala
Activity:Cycling to Varkala, Explore Beach / Leisure
Hotel: Krishnatheeram
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

From Munroe Island, the route heads north through a landscape of lakes, canals, mangroves, and paddy fields. The terrain is rolling as we pass Paravur Lake and a series of farming villages, with frequent views of the backwaters and the Arabian Sea. The ride continues along a narrow coastal stretch through the fishing villages and beaches of Kappil and Odayam before reaching Varkala. By afternoon, we settle into a hilltop resort overlooking the beach, with beautiful sunset views over the Arabian Sea.
Day 5
Varkala to kovalam
Activity: Cycling to Kovalam, Explore Beach / Leisure
Hotel: Neelakanta
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Our final ride takes us to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital city. The mostly flat route follows the coast through fishing communities, villages, and the popular Veli Beach area. Along the way, we pass the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, one of the richest temples in the world, and the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, famous for its annual Pongala festival. By afternoon, we settle into a luxury resort near Kovalam Beach. The rest of the day is free to relax by the beach, enjoy a swim, or simply take in the coastal surroundings.
Day 6
Depart

Our journey concludes today, leaving you with lasting memories of Kerala’s backwaters and coastal villages. A transfer to Trivandrum International Airport will be arranged according to your flight schedule.

Geared bicycles or e-bikes, helmets, and essential cycling equipment are provided. Tools and spare parts are carried by the support vehicle.
